THE FOUNDATION OF PURPOSE
In this workshop, we dive into six foundational truths of the Christian life, each building upon and informing the other. The content compels us to conduct a deep soul search of our relationship with God and how it manifests in our lives.
Each session is followed by reflective questions designed to move our hearts toward greater spiritual maturity.
1. OUR FAITH
Our faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ is the foundation of everything we are, a new creation.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
We were ransomed
We were purchased
We no longer belong to ourselves
We now have a new family
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
How well do I understand the application of God’s justice, mercy, and grace in my life?
How does my understanding of these truths about my faith impact my life?
2. OUR VIEW OF THE WORLD
Our reality as Christians is that, although we live in this world, we are no longer of it, but rather look for the promise of eternity with Christ.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
What leads to misplaced worship
How to guard from misplaced worship
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
In what ways am I too strongly attached to the world, and how is that causing me to misplace my worship?
Is there anything I am discontent with that could lead to misplaced worship? What should I do about it?
3. OUR VIEW OF DEATH
It is a sobering reality that with each passing day, we are one day closer to our departure from this life and the beginning of a new life that is forever.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
When is death going to come
What happens after we die
How should we approach death
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
Am I confident and at peace with where I am going after I die?
Am I living my life in a manner that reflects it could come at any moment?
Has my view of death changed as a result of this workshop?
4. OUR DECISIONS
The decisions we make are important and have a significant impact on our lives and the lives of those around us. The decisions Christians make should reflect our commitment to the gospel and our lives lived in a manner that glorifies God.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
Making decisions we won’t regret
Recovering from bad decisions, past, present, and future
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
How do I cope with the consequences of past poor decisions?
How can I ensure I make the best decisions in the future?
Am I willing to take full responsibility for past decisions?
5. OUR USE OF TIME
Time is the most valuable commodity we have this side of heaven. It is a precious gift that God gives us to spend in any way we desire. How we use it matters greatly.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
Who owns our time
How God wants us to spend our time
How we know we are spending it wisely
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
Does how I spend my time reflect God’s full ownership of my life?
Do I believe that what I am doing is compatible with God’s will for my life?
6. OUR LEGACY
How seriously we approach our faith in Christ, how we view the world we live in, and our willingness to embrace the brevity of this life seriously affect the decisions we make and our use of time. Each of these builds upon the other to establish the legacy we leave behind, what it is we will be remembered for.
SUBJECTS COVERED:
How to leave a legacy that has eternal value
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
What do I want people to say at my memorial service?
Am I on track to leave the legacy I would like?
